YOUNG universities in Australia have taken 14 spots in a league table designed specifically for institutions under 50 years old by the Times Higher Education rankings. Only the UK has more, with 20. The US is third, with nine. Released three days after rival rankings company QS published a similar list, the THE 100 under 50 years old shows the University of Wollongong and Macquarie University lead the Australian pack, at equal 33 on the list, followed by the Queensland University of Technology at 40, the University of Newcastle at 45 and Charles Darwin University at 48.
